Your Next LOTO Trainer Could Be You

Among everything OSHA cited NaturPak for last month, two items stand out for how ordinary they are: failure to develop, document, and use lockout/tagout procedures for the kettles, and failure to train employees on them. Both were repeat citations.

Lockout/tagout is one of the most frequently cited standards in general industry, year after year. The reason is rarely ignorance of the rule. It is that equipment-specific energy control procedures take real work to write, and training has to reach every affected employee and be documented when it does.

Why In-House Matters Here

Energy control procedures are equipment-specific by definition. Nobody outside your facility knows your kettles, presses, conveyors, and isolation points the way your team does. A trainer on staff can write procedures against the equipment in front of them, retrain immediately when a line changes, and document it the same day — rather than waiting for the next outside class to come around.

That last point is worth sitting with. Most repeat LOTO citations are not caused by a missing lock. They are caused by a procedure that never got written for a machine that got installed, or training that never reached a crew that got hired.
