Safety Certifications Without a Degree

Certifications make it possible for safety professionals to enhance their credibility and earning potential. Here at NASP, our training and certification programs are built for and by safety professionals.

With the Master Safety Professional (MSP)® and Certified Safety Director (CSD)® certifications, you’ll gain the knowledge and competency to uphold standards of ethical and professional practice and create a safe, healthy work environment.

Routes to Certification That Don’t Require a Degree

While many certification programs require that you have a degree prior to enrolling, we offer routes for safety professionals who don’t have one at NASP.

Both the MSP and CSD certifications are designed to establish your credibility in the industry. When you successfully complete a certification program, you’re showing that you are committed to continuing education and training. This additional safety training and certification can help you stand out from others in your industry.

Safety professionals that have at least one certification — or several — will also increase their earning potential. Investing in learning new techniques and skills can significantly impact how much you make each year.

Our Two Certification Exams

NASP offers two exams to gain two different certifications — MSP and CSD. While these certification programs don’t require a degree, there are eligibility requirements. You must also:

  • Pass a rigorous exam
  • Meet recertification requirements
  • Uphold the Certificant’s Code of Ethics and Professional Standards Agreement, Candidate’s Non-Disclosure and Confidentiality Agreement, and Criminal Conviction and Unethical Behavior Agreement

MSP

The MSP credential, which is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), is available to individuals who have a high school diploma and seven years of professional safety experience. To obtain certification, you must also hold one qualified credential, and 50% of your current role must be in safety.

Through the program, you’ll be able to build on specialist and strategic skills you already have – while embracing the broader organizational and social context where you’ll use them.

Fees include:

  • Application fee: $75
  • Exam fee (includes 2 exam attempts): $450
  • Recertification fee (every 3 years): $250

CSD

The CSD credential, which is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), is available to individuals who have a high school diploma and five years of professional safety experience. You must also hold one qualified credential to gain certification, and 50% of your current role must be in safety.

This program will advance your problem-solving and strategic abilities while equipping you with the knowledge and skills to use and analyze evidence and collaborate professionally.

Fees include:

  • Application fee: $75
  • Exam fee (includes 2 exam attempts): $395
  • Recertification fee (every 3 years): $195
