Electrical Safety Specialist (ESS) Course Details
Electrical hazards are a leading cause of workplace injury and fatality, and OSHA holds employers responsible for proving their workforce understands the risks before an incident happens. NASP’s Electrical Safety Specialist (ESS) online certificate course delivers focused electrical safety training around NFPA 70E requirements, teaching safety professionals, electricians, and facility teams to recognize hazards, apply approach boundaries, and select the right PPE. The required amount of time to complete the course is dependent upon your knowledge of workplace safety. Students have up to six months to complete the online course.
This self-paced course converts that regulatory knowledge into an IACET-accredited credential you can put to work right away.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:
- Identify common factors of electrical accidents.
- Explain the hazards of electrical work and their effects on the employee.
- Describe the main elements in an electrical safe work program.
- Summarize the requirements for establishing an electrically safe work condition.
- Establish the requirements for a shock risk and arc flash assessment.
- Implement approach boundaries for shock protection and arc flash hazard for qualified and unqualified employees.
- Select personal protective equipment for shock and arc flash protection.
- Conduct safe work practices if an arc flash hazard is present.

Continuing Education Units
(1.3) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.
Online Exams
The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have two opportunities to pass the exam.
Recertification
A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $150.
