NFPA 70E: Qualified Electrical Worker Training Pilot Study Description:

The NFPA 70E Pilot Study is used to evaluate if NASP has met the learning objectives we set out to achieve. It is of utmost importance that you take this course in its entirety in the Learning Management System (LMS) and refrain from “clicking through slides.” Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and the hours associated with them are meant to reflect the average time to complete the course by a student learning the topic for the first time. Even though you may already be familiar with portions of the material, you must read the content word-for-word so that we can use your timed results as part of our evaluation.

You must document the time (number of minutes) that it takes for you to complete the course, including each course section, each review game, and the final exam on the Pilot Study-Individual Student Calculation WorksheetThe worksheet and instructions will be provided to you upon course enrollment. The worksheet results will be combined with those of other pilot study participants to determine the final CEUs to be awarded for the course studied. Participants will receive CEUs for completing the Pilot Course once the CEU value has been determined.

Additionally, your feedback is what makes this Pilot Study work; we ask that you please complete the Course Review Survey found at the end of the course and provide thorough answers. We thank you for taking the time to complete this study! Because of individuals like you, we can continually create and improve the products that thousands of professionals rely on.

Description

The NFPA 70E: Qualified Electrical Worker Training course is designed for electricians, maintenance personnel, supervisors, safety professionals, and other employees who work on or near energized electrical equipment operating at 50 volts or more. This course provides comprehensive training on the requirements of NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace®, and its relationship to OSHA electrical safety regulations.

Electrical work presents serious, often invisible hazards, including electric shock, arc flash, arc blast, and secondary trauma. This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical understanding necessary to identify electrical hazards, perform proper risk assessments, establish Electrically Safe Work Conditions (ESWC), and apply appropriate protective measures in accordance with NFPA 70E.

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the Electrical Safety Program (ESP), establishing an Electrically Safe Work Condition, energized electrical work permits, shock and arc flash risk assessments, approach boundaries, and proper selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Emphasis is placed on applying the Hierarchy of Risk Controls and eliminating hazards whenever possible.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

  • Explain the purpose and scope of NFPA 70E and its relationship to OSHA regulations

  • Execute the 8-step process for establishing and verifying an Electrically Safe Work Condition
  • Perform and document electric shock risk assessments
  • Interpret shock protection boundaries and determine required protective measures
  • Perform and document arc flash risk assessments
  • Explain the difference between the Incident Energy Analysis Method and the Arc Flash PPE Category Method
  • Interpret arc flash labels and determine appropriate arc-rated PPE
  • Select, inspect, maintain, and properly use arc flash and shock protection PPE
  • Identify prohibited clothing and conductive items within the Arc Flash Boundary
  • Understand training frequency requirements, retraining triggers, and documentation obligations
  • Recognize emergency response training requirements, including annual contact release and CPR/AED training
