Celebrating 25 Years of NASP: A Journey of Dedication, Innovation, and Impact

Blog-header-Image

This week marks a significant milestone in NASP’s history: 25 years of unwavering commitment to workplace safety. What began in 2000 as a small venture by Tom Hardin has grown into a globally recognized organization, empowering safety professionals across industries with cutting-edge training, trusted certifications, and a shared passion for saving lives.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Reach

NASP’s story started with a clear mission: to provide hands-on, effective workplace safety training. In our early days, in-person classes laid the foundation for what would become an expansive suite of offerings. As technology advanced, so did we. Recognizing the potential of digital education early on, we pivoted toward online learning — and became pioneers in the virtual safety training space.

Today, safety professionals from around the world turn to NASP for comprehensive training and certification in a wide range of areas, including Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER), Hydrogen Sulfide Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, and more. Our flagship course, the Certified Safety Manager (CSM), remains a cornerstone of our program, continuously evolving to meet the demands of the modern safety landscape.

Embracing Modern Safety Ideologies

Over the years, NASP has not only adapted to industry changes, but we’ve also helped lead them. We’ve embraced progressive safety philosophies, including:

  • Behavior-Based Safety (BBS): Putting human behavior at the core of risk reduction.
  • Human and Organizational Performance (HOP): Focusing on systemic solutions rather than blame.
  • Psychological Health and Safety: Prioritizing mental well-being as part of a safe work environment.
  • AI Application: Incorporating new and exciting AI applications like Hazard Detection & Risk Prediction, Wearables, Training & Simulation, Compliance & Auditing, Mental & Cognitive Health Monitoring, and more.

These approaches have allowed us to remain at the forefront of safety education while equipping professionals with tools that address both physical and psychological risks in the workplace.

Accreditation That Validates Our Mission

As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard.

In 2019, we earned accreditation from the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). This milestone empowered us to issue Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for both in-person and online courses, a testament to the quality and rigor of our curriculum.

Building on that momentum, June 2021 brought a major achievement: our Certified Safety Director (CSD)® and Master Safety Professional (MSP)® credentials received accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). This rigorous process underscored our commitment to delivering certifications that reflect real-world challenges and empower “boots-on-the-ground” safety leaders, something that has long been overdue in the safety industry.

The Master Safety Professional (MSP)® and Certified Safety Director (CSD)® credentials are accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) under ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2012 General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification of Persons.

A New Chapter in Wilmington, North Carolina

Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony.

In 2025, we planted new roots by becoming members of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, reaffirming our dedication not only to global progress but also to our local community. This week, we proudly hosted Wilmington business owners and fellow chamber members at our official ribbon-cutting ceremony for NASP’s new headquarters and training center, a hub designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence in safety education.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Safety Training

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we’re just getting started.

In the year ahead, NASP will launch a next-generation Learning Management System (LMS). This platform will offer an intuitive, interactive, and flexible learning experience unlike anything currently available. Alongside this, we are upgrading existing course content to ensure our learners receive the most relevant, effective, and engaging education possible.

Our focus remains the same: equipping safety professionals with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make workplaces safer, every single day.

Thank You for 25 Incredible Years

To our students, clients, partners, and the global safety community: thank you. Your trust and support have fueled every milestone, and we are honored to have served you for a quarter of a century.

Workplace safety professionals are often the unsung heroes of industry — preventing incidents, protecting lives, and promoting a culture of care. At NASP, we see you, we support you, and we celebrate you.

Here’s to the past 25 years. And here’s to the next 25, together.
