Course Objectives (cont.):

Many of you who you took the NASP Safety Manager/Trainer Course experienced a new "awakening" when it came to the realities of Workplace Safety. In this course you will learn that even then you could still see but through a glass darkly. Prepare for an eye opening, life saving, and life changing experience. You will never see safety in the same context again.

The Advanced Safety Professional certification course is based on the NASP core concepts of building a successful safety culture and the eight principles of a safe workplace.

The IASP/NASP "Work to Live By" Program

The "Work to Live by" Program, based on the aforementioned principles and philosophy, is the IASP/NASP system by which the safety culture is developed. The "Work to Live by" program includes a thorough safety audit of your facility with abatement of hazards discovered. This audit reveals any shortfalls in OSHA compliance and safety plans, programs, policies and procedures. Based upon this starting point, a site specific Safety Culture System is created and implemented.

The IASP/NASP "Work to Live by" System incorporates IASP/NASP's unique training methodologies and safety management techniques to ensure the absolutely necessary "buy in" of all employees. The "Work to Live by" system takes its name from one of the most important elements of the system, the acceptance by employers and employees of responsibility for their safety and the safety of their fellow employees. This one point is often the failure point for many safety programs.

There is one type of employment where this acceptance by employees of responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their fellow employees flourishes. These professions are public safety employees. Police Officers and Fire Fighters are instilled with this principle throughout their training. Recently, a platoon of police cadets was heard singing a cadence as they jogged to a training field:

Leader: "Sergeant, Sergeant here we go."
Cadets: "Sergeant, Sergeant here we go"

Leader: "Let me tell you what I know."
Cadets: "Let me tell you what I know."

Leader: "To my team I will be true,"
Cadets: "To my team I will be true,"

Leader: "failing them I will not do."
Cadets: "failing them I will not do."

Leader: "At the end of every day,"
Cadets: "At the end of every day,"

Leader: "there is only one right way."
Cadets: "there is only one right way."

Leader: "All for one and one for all,"
Cadets: "All for one and one for all,"

Leader: "stand together, do not fall"
Cadets: "stand together, do not fall"

Everyone: "We all go home!!"
Everyone: "We all go home!!"
Everyone: "At the end of every day, we all go home!!"

That's the bottom line in the IASP/NASP Safety Culture System: "We All Go HOME". The key is that every employee accepts responsibility to ensure that both they and their team members "All Go Home" at the end of the day. That is "Work to Live by".
