Job Summary:

Regional Safety Program Manager

The Regional Safety Program Manager will provide all Divisions within assigned region with the requisite program management guidance, oversight and assistance in the areas of: OSHA & EPA regulatory compliance (state & federal); workplace safety and environment; and security and loss prevention to ensure the Divisions are able to safely operate in full regulatory compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and in a manner consistent with USF policies & procedures.
They will conduct regular OSHA & EPA regulatory compliance audits, and workplace safety, environment and security program reviews at each assigned Division; and prepares timely concise reports to the Division leadership team, and appropriate regional and support office personnel so as to remedy and/or escalate identified issues as needed on a timely basis.
We are seeking 2 Regional Safety Managers: Mid-Atlantic and the South East
- Analyzes loss experience and related data, and works with Division leadership to develop division-specific plans to reduce workplace incidents, accidents and injuries. Assists division leadership in developing and communicating annual goals. Uses data collected from incident, accident & injury reports to provide division operations management with corrective action plans and topics for 5-minute safety talks.
- Ensures that emergency preparedness & evacuation drills are held regularly (at a minimum annually) and that all division personnel understand and conform with the emergency preparedness & response plan requirements.
- Reviews the findings of all third party audits; and collaborates with divisions to develop action plans/schedules to remediate findings and ensures that corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner consistent with the agreed upon action plan(s).
- Conducts regular, internal program reviews with each assigned division to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and all USF policies, as well as regulatory inspection and/or audit ready preparedness.
- Assists the divisions to prepare for and pass federal and state OSHA, EPA (and as needed DOT) audits, inspections and inquiries, in compliance with established USF policies and practices.
- Communicates new Support Office programs, reviews impending regulatory changes and shares best practices in monthly workplace safety security & environment calls with key operations managers for all assigned divisions.
- Reviews regularly with each assigned Division's leadership team current workplace safety, security & environment performance and corrective action plans to ensure agreed upon regulatory compliance and EHSS performance goals are achieved.
- Assists divisions with determining the need for outside contractors/consultants to provide safety, security or environmental services. Participate in the selection process to ensure the use of qualified contractors/consultants.
Desired Skills & Experience
Education/Training: 4 year college degree or demonstrated equivalent experience required; Completion of NSC "Principles of Occupational Safety & Health" or equivalent within one year of employment.
Experience: Must have 8 - 10 years of directly related OSHA & EPA regulatory compliance management experience ideally across multiple sites and a demonstrated track record of effectively working with operations management and operating personnel (including warehouse workers, PIT operators, maintenance personnel, etc.).
Proven capabilities in effective training program delivery are preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:- Must have extensive knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulatory requirements and compliance management programs; and working knowledge of DOT requirements. Knowledge of food safety regulations, and food distribution best practices is preferred. - Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills are required.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.- Must have collaborative, consultative and team oriented approach; and be able to work equally effectively with division leadership, operating management, front line supervision, and operating personnel; while also providing the requisite oversight needed to meet assigned accountabilities.- Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and plans across multiple divisions.- Ability to learn and use USF and third party IT tools, and working knowledge and use of standard MS desktop applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) are required.
