Important Changes for All Safety Manager Trainers

and NASP International Franchise Partnerships

NASP's New Petroleum Safety Certification Courses
By Independent Study from NASP Website,

or Classroom Version (currently available outside of the United States)

by any Level III Authorized Safety Manager Trainer

NASP has introduced nine new petroleum safety certification courses that have proven extremely popular. The courses are divided into three areas of specialization which include NASP's Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Series, NASP's Petroleum Pipeline Systems Series, and NASP's Refinery, Petrochemical Plant, and Storage Facility Series.  Make your mark in the Petroleum Industry's Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Process. Become a Certified Petroleum Safety Specialist (PSS) in one of the above three areas by completing the first level course in that area.   Add the designation of Certified Petroleum Safety Manager (PSM) by completing the next level course in that area.  Earn the designation of Certified Petroleum Safety Administrator (PSA) by completing additional coursework. Complete all nine Petroleum Safety Certifications and earn the designation of Licensed Safety Professional in Petroleum Safety (LSP).  For more information click here and see the areas of specialization and courses on the home page.

NASP's Worldwide Expansion
NASP International Franchise Partnerships and Advanced Level Trainers

The National Association of Safety Professionals is entering into new franchise partnership agreements with safety training organizations around the world. The new NASP franchisees will be accredited to offer a classroom version of the Safety Manager Trainer Course with the Safety Manager Trainer (SMT) and Safety Planning Specialist (SPS) Certifications and a classroom version of the Petroleum Courses as long as they maintain an NASP Advanced Level Trainer (advanced SMT) to teach the courses. The Safety Manager Trainer Certification alone does not allow one to teach these courses. This change is in response to many requests worldwide for classroom versions of the Safety Manager Trainer Course and the Petroleum Courses. NASP franchise partners will also be accredited to offer other safety related courses not usually offered by NASP, in their areas of specialization and approved by NASP, and receive certification for their students.

An NASP Franchisees may represent themselves as being part of NASP, which includes the use of the NASP name and logo on their websites or other advertisements. Franchisees will be included on the Official NASP Website. Upon request from students in a specific geographical area, NASP will recommend the nearest NASP Franchisee.

NASP welcomes the Cairo and Dubai franchises led by Dr. Wagdi Fouad Seffain Hanna, a NASP Advanced Level IV Trainer from Environmental Health and Safety Academy.  NASP also welcomes the Ethiopia franchise led by Edward Evans, a NASP Advanced Level IV Trainer.   As a leader in the industry, NASP is internationally recognized as having an impeccable reputation. To be eligible for an NASP Franchise Agreement you must have a well-established safety training company that has maintained an excellent reputation.   In order to maintain the highest quality in safety training, all NASP Franchisees must meet and maintain NASP standards including NASP Advanced Level IV Trainer to teach the Safety Manager Trainer Course; SMT certification alone does not permit a trainer to teach these courses.

NASP Advanced Level Trainers are Certified Safety Manager Trainers who have completed the application process, received approval and entered a franchise contract agreement with NASP. Trainers must achieve their Licensed Safety Professional (LSP) within one year of approval. Any training organization wishing to apply for an NASP Franchise Partnership should complete the application and e-mail it to NASP (Click here).

The Standard Safety Manager Trainer Certification

The basic level Safety Manager Trainer (SMT) may continue teaching anywhere. These trainers may represent themselves as NASP Certified Trainers, which includes the use of the NASP name and logo on their website as well as other advertising. However, these trainers may not represent themselves as being NASP Franchisees or part of NASP.  Instead, the Safety Manager Trainer may advertise as an NASP Certified Trainer for any safety course they teach whether or not it is on the following list.  Certificates without the NASP name and/or logo may be issued by the trainer.  When issuing an NASP certificate or diploma the standard Safety Manager Trainer may only teach the following courses:

NASP 10 and 30 hour Courses for General Industry
NASP 10 and 30 hour Courses for Construction
NASP 10 and 30 hour Courses for the Petroleum Industry
(exception: The Safety Manager Trainer (SMT) must also earn the Certified Petroleum Safety Administrator (PSA) in order to teach the Petroleum 10 and 30 hour courses)

The Occupational Safety and Health Basic Diploma
(any of the six following topical courses)

The Occupational Safety and Health Advanced Diploma
(all of the following topics)
Note: The Basic and Advanced diplomas were previously not an option; however, NASP is now offering them due to the overwhelming amount of requests.

The Safety Manager Trainer may also teach any of the following courses individually:

Bloodborne Pathogens
Confined Space Entry
Electrical Safety
Ergonomics
Hazard Communication
Hazardous Materials
HAZWOPER (HTS and Technician Certifications must be current)
Inspections
Lockout Tagout
Machine Guarding
Materials Handling
Egress/Fire Safety
PPE
Record Keeping (not for international students)
Workplace Violence
Walk/Work Surfaces
Weld/Cut/Braze
Other NASP Topical Courses the Safety Manager Trainer has successfully completed

Note: A Level III or IV Trainer may teach classroom versions of the Petroleum Courses. To be considered a Level III Trainer you must first apply for consideration directly to NASP and include a current resume.

Modified Procedures & Safeguards

for all Certified Safety Manager Trainers

At NASP, we work hard to maintain our reputation as a leader in the safety training industry. The NASP Corporate Office receives calls and e-mails from potential or existing employers seeking to verify a student’s completion of specific NASP training and their certificates. Unfortunately, requests have revealed fraudulent use of the NASP name and credentials. Misrepresentations involving the use of NASP’s name or logo will be posted as fraud on the NASP Website. All Safety Manager Trainers are reminded that they must have a current certification. Certifications must be renewed every three years, and Safety Manager Trainers must follow NASP standards at all times.

In an effort to strengthen your credibility as a franchisee or trainer, we have modified our student certification procedures.  Effective immediately, NASP certificates will be issued directly from the NASP Corporate Office. The student's name and completed course information are maintained in the NASP Database.   All Safety Manager Trainers are required to submit a Course Report (click here) to the NASP Corporate Office.  The Safety Manager Course Report is to include the names and associated information for all students completing the course.   Upon receipt of the completed Safety Manager Course Report, the certificates, diplomas, and/or pocket cards will be issued to the Safety Manager Trainer for distribution.   Please ensure correct spelling of each student’s name as this is how it will appear on their Official NASP document.   Because students desire proof of having completed the course, Safety Manager Trainers may issue a Verification of Course Completion document to each student until you receive and issue their Official NASP document.

The cost of an Official NASP certificate, diploma, and/or pocket card is ten U.S. dollars ($10.00) per student.   Mail the completed Safety Manager Course Report along with your payment (or payment information) to the NASP Corporate Office.  For faster service, Course Reports may be faxed to the Corporate Office at 1-704-487-1579, and a payment can be made by Credit Card.  Our staff is working on fully automating the submission of the Course Report and payment directly through our Website; until then, you are to either mail or fax the reports.

NASP's New 10 and 30 Hour Courses for Overseas Trainers

Beginning July 1, 2011, OSHA Outreach Trainers located outside of the United States were no longer allowed to offer the OSHA 10 and 30 hour courses (click here for further information). In order to allow you to continue training without interruption, NASP will be offering 10 and 30 hour courses to replace those OSHA courses you have lost. The NASP Safety Manager Trainer will be certified to offer these courses and their students will receive NASP certificates and pocket cards.  If you are not Certified by NASP as a Safety Manager Trainer you may receive that certification by completing the NASP Safety Manager Trainer Course through independent study (click here) or in classroom versions where available.  Currently, classroom versions are available through our franchise partner Environmental Health and Safety Academy, headquartered in Cairo (click here).  For a list of other NASP Courses the Safety Manager Trainer is certified to teach (click here).
